It’s 20 years this week since J K Rowling launched her very first Harry Potter book. Little did she know back in 1997 what an impact on the world this collection of wonderfully imaginative books of magic and wizardry would have.

Not a week goes by when we don’t hear headlines about a case of cyber crime. For some, these news stories have become wallpaper. It’s happening, but not to me. Does it really happen that much? Unfortunately, yes. Stop for a moment and think about it: what would it feel like if it did happen to you and what could the impact be?

Have you heard the famous African proverb “it takes a whole village to raise a child”? The notion is that it isn’t just about the mother and father, but the wider family, friends, indeed the whole community to step in and support the next generations of the village both practically and emotionally. In some ways this is how we feel about business and community in West Oxfordshire.

One of things we love most is solving a challenge. A problem that at first may feel like you’ve lost the end of the Christmas tree lights – the deeper you get, the more muddled you end up. Put into a business context, these problems can sometimes be one of a kind and are the type of problem that we love to solve with technology.

We’ve reached the end of 2016 feeling very jolly. We’ve had a year fuelled with an array of different technical projects, delivering solutions which make organisations more efficient and solving challenges which are unique to them.

Business and community. When these two words are anchored together they can conjour up a reaction of ‘ I don’t have the time’, ‘I don’t know how I can help’, or ‘I can’t afford to do community stuff’.
